Yes! I feel this in my soul. I went to the U of I in Iowa City, and I can relate, so hard, to almost every single one of these experiences. At 19, I was a bit too naive/scared to really stand up for myself except for the most awful cases. And even then (getting chased down an alley by a group of white men in a truck yelling n****r) still not even having the capability to process. Thanks for speaking out about this- “Midwest nice” is fucking bullshit!
